Recruiting Privacy Notice
In this Privacy Notice, we provide information about how trivago N.V. and all its subsidiaries (“we”, “us”, “trivago”) processes personal data in relation to your application and trivago’s application management system. Personal data is any data that can be used to identify you, either directly or indirectly.
Please read the following carefully to understand our use of your personal data.
1. Who is responsible for the processing of personal data described in this Privacy Notice?
trivago controls the processing operations described in this Privacy Notice. trivago is a company incorporated under the laws of the Netherlands, and has its offices at Kesselstraße 5-7, 40221 Düsseldorf, Germany.
To exercise your data protection rights or to ask a general question about the processing of your personal data by trivago or about this Privacy Notice, you can contact our team by sending an email to privacy@trivago.com.
To contact our data protection officer directly, please send an email to privacy@trivago.com with the subject line “To the attention of the data protection officer”. Please note, emails sent to this address will not automatically be confidential/only read by the data protection officer. Should you require a confidential exchange with our data protection officer, please state so in your email to us and we will arrange such an exchange.
2. Your rights
You have the following rights with respect to your personal data. Please refer to Section 1 to get information about how to contact us and to exercise such rights.
2.1 General rights
You have the following legal data protection rights under the relevant legal conditions: the right to information (Article 13 GDPR), the right of access (Article 15 GDPR), the right to deletion (Article 17 GDPR), the right to correction (Article 16 GDPR), the right to restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR), and the right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR).
2.2 Right to revoke consent
If we process your personal data on the basis of legitimate interests, you have the right to object at any time for reasons arising out of your particular situation against such processing. If you object, we will no longer process your personal data unless we can establish compelling and legitimate grounds for processing that outweigh your interests, rights and freedoms, or if the processing aids the enforcing, exercising or defending of legal claims.
2.3 Right to object to processing of data based on legitimate interests

2.4 Rights to object to employer marketing
If we process your personal data for the purpose of employer marketing, you have the right to object at any time to such processing. For further details on how to object to any form of direct marketing, please see Section 6.1.
2.5 Right to complain to a supervisory authority
You also have the right to complain to a competent data protection authority if you believe that your personal data is being processed in violation of applicable data protection legislation. You may contact any data protection authority in any member state of the European Union, in particular at your place of residence. 3. What data we collect from you
When you use our Services, we may process these types of personal data:
- name and contact details (email address, phone number);
- information provided in your cover letter and CV such as previous experience, education, degrees;
- other information provided in the application form you submit to us (possible start date, salary expectations, spoken languages, country of residence, nationality, need for work permit, gender, introduction video, job related questions;
- certificates, letters of recommendation;
- case studies, tests, interview notes, interview transcripts, interview recordings, questionnaires conducted during the recruiting process;
- publicly available data from sources such as your LinkedIn profile.
Our recruitment team and hiring managers will have access to all this information.
4. Why and how we use your personal data
Below you will find information about (i.) the reasons why we collect and use your personal data, as well as, for each purpose, and (ii.) the corresponding legal basis. Your personal data may be used in the following ways:
- Assess your suitability for a role with us and to contact you to process your application.
Legal basis: processing in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) .
- Sensitive data, such as health, religious, racial or ethnicity information.
We discourage you from providing personal data that may be considered sensitive personal data. If such data is shared because it is necessary for a particular position or in accordance with the law, we will handle such information responsibly and ask for your explicit consent.
Legal basis (in case that sensitive data is shared with us voluntarily): Article 9(2)(b) GDPR (processing is necessary in the field of employment law and therefore authorized by German law).

5. With whom we share your data
We may share your personal data with the following categories of recipients, provided there is an appropriate legal basis:
- Our wholly owned subsidiaries

We won’t share your personal data with any third parties for marketing purposes.
6. Service-specific information
6.1 Newsletter
We offer a newsletter service which may include career advice, open job opportunities, information and news about trivago as a company or as an employer, life at our trivago campus or other information that might be of interest for you.
By subscribing to our newsletter directly through the website of Greenhouse, our provider for application management, during the application process, you will receive such information regularly.
If you no longer wish to receive newsletters from us, you can unsubscribe at any time by sending an email to careers.trv@trivago.com.
6.2 Talent Pool
In the application form you can consent to join trivago’s talent pool so that we can consider your application for other current and future open positions which may be suitable for you. You can withdraw your consent to participate in the Talent Pool at any time by sending an email to careers.trv@trivago.com.
7. Transfer to other countries
Because of the global nature of our business, we may share your personal data internationally with our wholly owned subsidiaries, and with our service providers. Greenhouse, the provider we use for our recruitment process, may store and process your personal data on servers located in the USA. Since Greenhouse has certified its participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (“EU-U.S. DPF”) proper securities in line with Art. 46(2) of the GDPR are in place to protect your personal data.
8. How does trivago protect your data?
As part of our commitment to safeguard your personal data, we have taken appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from being accidentally or intentionally manipulated, lost, destroyed, or accessed by unauthorised persons. These include but are not limited to pseudonymization, encryption, firewalls, or access controls. Our security measures are reviewed regularly and updated in keeping up with technological advances.
9. When will your data be deleted?
If we do not come to an agreement, your personal data will be deleted after 6 months starting from the application date unless you request immediate deletion in accordance with the rights set out above.
In case you agreed to join our Talent Pool and/or to receive our newsletter, the associated personal data is stored for 24 months provided that you do not opt out before end of that period.
Personal data that is stored in the talent pool with your consent will be kept for 24 months.
